How to Take Amazing Travel Photography

Travel photography is a career for some. Most people because just want to bring back nice photos to show their friends and family. No image will replace the moment of being there, that's why people still travel instead of browsing Google Images! Professional or amateur, the first thing you need is a camera. Yes, a camera, and a real one, not a phone or something you attach on your helmet.

Choosing the best camera to buy requires a good amount of research. However, most modern cameras will do a good enough job, particularly if you do not want to get technical. Today, if you buy any mirrorless or DSLR, you will get a very good camera. Just skip the kit lens and buy a good general purpose one but not a super-zoom as those compromise in image quality and low-light performance. For just making nice photographers, you can get a smaller fixed-lens camera. There are plenty of premium models offering 1 “sensors which is a huge leap in image quality from the typical ultra-compact and cellphone camera.

Still, better image quality only allows a photographer to show the images larger. It does not improve a photograph itself. Even a low-end camera now offers much better image quality than what 35mm used to be like 20 years ago and many such images graced covers of National Geographic. So, make sure you have a camera and let's get started on how to make amazing photographs!

Actually, the second step to create stunning images starts without the camera! What your images need to do is share your amazement of a place. So what you need to do is look for what amazes you and investigate it well.

Say you just arrived in downtown Lima at the Plaza de Armas. The plaza is awesome, it's surrounded by imposing historic buildings on 3 sides, there's a huge fountain in the middle, lights, flowers arranged in patterns and hordes of people passing through.

You feel amazed but you can not snap a photo as soon as you step onto the plaza and expect a great outcome. An actual photo of the plaza in impossible from within it, you would need to seek a good vantage point for that. Instead, find each element and details that make the place amazing to you.

The cathedral, for example, on the east side of the plaza, is extremely imposing. It also has these spectacularly carved wooden balconies protruding from the stone walls. Get close to it, look at what element fascinates you the most. Once you have mentally noted elements that interest you, it's time to start composing your image.

Composing means place elements together. Of course, you can not move the cathedral or the fountain but you can move yourself to show elements together or separate them. This is where the camera lens makes the whole difference and where zooms very help. Place yourself where you can see the elements you thought of and bring the camera to your eye. Look and inspect the view. Adjust your position and zoom until what attracted you to make this photo is prominent and there is little to nothing else in the frame. Remember the saying:

“Perfection is Achieved Not When There Is Nothing to Add, But When There Is Nothing Left to Take Away” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Already if you get this right, your photos will have much more impact. Then you can further improve the composition by adding other techniques:

  • Leave space in front of the subject. Either unoccupied space or something which establishes location, such as a patch of flowers.
  • Let a complimentary subject in the frame. For example, a person or animal to show the scale of things.
  • Include a leading line, something which points to the subject, a road, fence, etc.
  • Tilt the camera up to exaggerate perspective for imposing subjects.

The last thing which has the most impact is light. Photographs are made of light but not all light is equal for photography. Cameras can only capture a certain amount of contrast. Anything behind that results in over-exposed (completely white) or under-exposed (very dark) areas.

There are two ways to deal with natural light. One is to work with and the other is to wait for it. Travel photography is not studio work, so you can not control the light much and without accessories.

Working with the light means to move yourself and the orientation of your camera to that which is shown in the viewfinder does not have a too high contrast. It's pretty simple, just look at the darkest and brightest area of the scene. Move to exclude one or the other when they contrast too much.

Working with the light often goes against the composition created in the previous step. This is why it is often much better to wait for the light. The sun does not move fast so this takes time but it is highly predictable. Take the time to see where the sun is and if it is moving towards a better position or not. Remember, the sun always moves toward the West. If the light is improving, come back later. If not, come back tomorrow.

Pay attention to sunrise and sunset times. Around then, plus or minus an hour, depending on where you live, the contrast is lowest and there is still color in the sky. This is the best time to take beautiful images. Over 95% of published travel images are taken during these times!

There you have it. Much better images to showcase with only 3 steps: Get a camera, compose and work with the light.

We all want to remember our weddings. To create beautiful memories, you should take beautiful wedding photos. To do this you need to do a number of things:

Hire a professional photographer

There are many people out there posing as professional photographers, but they are not. Before you settle on a given photographer take your time to research. If you have a friend who has good photos, you should ask them to refer you to the photographer. If you do not have a friend, wedding blogs and social media sites are great places to find a great photographer. The professional you hire should have a lot of experience in wedding photography. To make the decision you should take a look at samples of previous work. To increase your chances of getting top notch photos, go for a professional who specializes in wedding photography.

Pay attention to the wedding season

The season you are having your wedding has a great impact on the type of photos that you get. As you know, the lighting has a lot of influence on the quality of the photos. If the lighting is not enough, you receive poor quality photos. The same applies when you have a lot of light. Due to this, you should pay close attention to the timing of your photo shoot. During summer, the sun stays up for a long time but this is not the case with winter.

If having a winter wedding, you should start the shooting early enough so that the photographer can make maximum use of natural light. While it's recommended that you take the wedding photos after the ceremony, it will not hurt taking a few before the big event. This way, you take plenty of high-quality photos using natural light.

Hire a makeup artist

Most people think that professional makeup artists are used by models, but this is not the case. For your photos to look good you need to also look good. You can hire an expert photographer who uses top notch cameras but you will not achieve ideal results if you do not look good. You should hire a professional makeup artist to apply makeup on all the people whose photos will be taken.

Leave enough time

One of the prime reasons for poor photos is the lack of sufficient photo time. Most of the weddings end late into the evening that the photographers take the photos in a hurry. The end result of this is poor quality photos. For a beautiful memory, you should not allow the photos to be taken in a hurry in your wedding. Instead of taking all the photos after the wedding, you should consider taking a few a nights before the event. For example, you can take the parent photos before the wedding day. By doing this you have just a few photos to be taken during the wedding day which increases the chances of having high-quality photos.

Conclusion

These are tips on how to have high-quality photos in your wedding. As rule of thumb, you should work with a reputable and experienced photographer.

We are all familiar with the saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words”. It has been proven scientifically that visual content has a greater impact on its audience than written. Although the text has its own significance in terms of conveying information, images give an emotional effect. And, emotions draw a consumer to a brand.

Today's consumer will prefer to gather information about a product or a site through an image rather than reading a lengthy content. Therefore, it is essential to design a content with images and audio and video media in order to attract the attention of its readers.

These are times where digital marketing techniques have gained a lot of importance. One of the major components of digital marketing is content. Content is considered the 'King'. Digital marketers are creating blogs, blog posts, etc. for promoting their business. Embedding visual content in the written content makes it stand out.

Images play an important role in the design of an E-commerce website also. This is because online shoppers are enticed by the pictures of the product rather than description.

Now comes the question how and where to find images relevant to the content?

Images can be accessed on the web or Google images, etc. But, these images are usually owned by individuals or agencies. Therefore, their usage can be a legal issue.

Nowadays, there are stock image sites which have a collection of a wide variety of images that can be used.

There are two options available for using stock images:

1. Some websites offer images that can be used legally free of charge. The drawbacks of using these images:

  • The number of images is limited.
  • Images are not of very high quality.
  • These images are common. They are used by most bloggers, designers, etc.

2. There are websites where a monthly subscription can be purchased and their images used on a regular basis. The benefit of these sites is that the user can upload unique pictures in his content / website. However, the drawback is that the user needs to pay for the images.

It is up to the user to decide which website to use, based on the aspects that are significant to him. The user should select images that are relevant to the content.

We can see the significance of images in modern-day marketing. Great images help in creating a bond between a brand and the consumer. So, it is vital to select high-quality images relevant to the site / content to enhance its impact.

Poster frames help us display our posters, art and photographs in an appealing way. While they have all the features of the regular picture frames, their design is a lot simpler. As far as the definition goes, primarily, these frames are designed for big pictures. Typically, their size is 11 x 17 at a minimum. Read on to know other important features.

Standard sizes

Over the years, poster frames have gone through a lot of development on the basis of the size of concert posters, movie posters, and format art prints.

Construction

The border is made of plastic and a plexiglass that covers the poster. The back is made from cardboard, which makes the frame lightweight. For easy hanging, the back has a hook as well.

There is an option to install a mat as well. However, you will not see double matting in these frames because they will add extra weight.

Snap Frames

Snap frames is another great option. Typically, snap frames load the photos from the very front, which allows you to replace the photo without removing the frame. For ease of access, all of the sides of the frame are open. They are good for movie posters.

Acid-free poster frames

When buying a poster frame, make sure you know whether it's acid-free or archival. Ask yourself if you need to use a poster to beautify your room or you need to use one to preserve a memorabilia or a piece of art. If you want to use it for preservation purposes, you should give a go to a higher quality material.

Archival Poster Frames

If you want to preserve an artifact, you can take your poster frame to a professional to see if it is acid-free or not. This way you can rest assured that your pictures would be saved for a long term.

If you want to get started with archival picture frames, you may want to opt for one with the back of an acid-free paper. By definition, an acid-free paper has base pH of 7 or slightly higher. Beside, this type of paper is free of sulfur, which makes it an ideal choice for prints that tend to degrade with the passage of time.

You do not have to go for the acid-free option. UV filtered glass gives you protection from the powerful UV rays. These rays negatively affect the picture within a few years based on the exposure level. Aside from this, preservation glass is reliably heavier and costlier. If you break it by mistake, your photo may get damaged.

As far as weight and other features are concerned, plexiglass frames are a good choice. Just make sure you do not go for the ammonia-based cleaners. Another thing that you should keep in mind is that the print should not touch the glass surface or the condensation may show up on the internal side of the frame.

So, if you need poster frames and you have no idea which option you should go for, you may want to consider the information given in this article before making your purchase decision.

There is a lot that you can earn and learn when becoming a wedding photographer. However beginner photographers simply keep going the wrong way and then in the end start giving up when nobody takes up their service. If you are such photographer, then perhaps this article may be able to help you so read on.

Here's a question for you. Other than the money, what comes close to your mind about photography? Equipment? Softwares? I would say a little of each plays an important role, but what is more important is the idiot behind the camera. So that brings us to our first tip.

1. You matter the most, then your equipment

Many people would say that equipment is the most important in a photographer's arsenal. That is true but to a certain percentage. The bigger percentage of it is YOU! Why do I say this? In order to efficiently operate or shoot a digital SLR would require a lot of knowledge and adaptability.

Now let's start with knowledge . If you give your digital SLR to someone who shoots with a handheld camera, he would just return it back to you or he would just jumble up your settings. So in simple terms you need to build up the knowledge on your equipment in order to maximize it's functionality. Any photographer would tell you that there is a great difference in using modes like M (fully manual), A (aperture privilege), S (shutter priority) and P, which I do not actually know what it is since I have never used it at all.

Next would be adaptability meaning that you are able to quickly adapt to changing situations. Take for example moving from the outdoor to indoors, then from indoors to the ballroom or hotel room. Each different location requires you to adapt and change the settings on the digital SLR in order to capture the image spot on. If you are unable to adapt quickly to such situations, you will have problems in getting the moments of the wedding. With that we move on to tip no. 2.

2. Keep practicing

As I would always say to my team, “Be a leader, not a follower”. The reason behind this is when you become a leader in the pack, you can get the first huge chunk of the sales before everyone does. In order to achieve that, you would need to keep practicing and finding out new creative ways to shoot in a wedding or during the pre or post wedding session.

Do not waste your precious time going around every month finding out the prices or what other vendors have to offer, instead use your valuable time to practice and create new creations to add on to your portfolio. This will then allow your visitors or loyal page followers to view and then recommending you to their friends or perhaps engaging you themselves. Now that leads us to no. 3.

3. Promotion and marketing

This plays a very important part for your exposure. No exposure means nobody knows about you and when nobody knows about you, you would end up with no sales. If you are tight on funding, go simple. One of the most powerful tools is social media. Set up an Instagram or Facebook account and start sharing the things you do for photography. You may post about a job that you have just finished, or maybe an oncoming creations that may interest your followers. Just do it, you would not know people may buy your creativity.

Once you have your ball rolling then set up your own website to gather or redirect more traffic. This way you can gain more exposure because putting you in the running for Google's search engines. Start with this two and you will not go wrong.

4. Equipment

Equipment is the next concern in a photographer's arsenal. If you are a beginner and on a low budget, start with an equipment that is within your reach. Do not go robbing a bank simply because they say having a pro level camera is important.

In my opinion, having a pro level digital SLR is a much better option if you have the financial to purchase it even if you are on a low budget then my advise is to get a camera body that has a minimum of 24 mega pixels resolution. As for lens, you may approach your closest available camera rental center and rent yourself some good glass. This is to allow you to have a good start in weddings while you work on a larger budget to get yourself a better camera body.

It does not matter whether it's a crop or a full frame, as long as you shoot your images in raw. There is a great difference when shooting in raw compared to shooting in jpeg format.

5. Pricing

Now comes the most important part of your business which would determine the income that you will earn. Do not go crazy like other new photographers trying to get as much deals as possible. Always bear this in mind and understand this saying if you start as a cheap photographer, you will never be a cheap photographer.

Anybody likes a cheap price or service, then they will expect the world out of you. Have some dignity and price yourself as a professional. Photographers have a pride and their work is a resemblance of their pride. So price yourself reasonably. It does not matter if people do not take you initially that's because they are interested in your work and they are playing the mind game to get you to lower your price. Ignore them if they do not take your service.

It is better to get someone who is willing to pay your price and leave everything to you rather to have someone who pays you low and tells you that they want this shot, they want that shot and so on.

Hope you find these tips useful to keep you ahead as a wedding photographer. Be patient on getting leads for yourself. Use landscape photography to practice your composition as it is cheap and do not require models.

Take myself as an example. During my free time I would go on outdoor sessions with my model (once you are there, models will come to you.) Or on my own to capture landscapes. My latest project on Kickstarter compiles most of my work on landscape photography in Singapore in a calendar set for the year 2017.

This is my first project out of many coming very soon from my many years of photography experience.

Movie Settings for the Canon Eos 1300D or Rebel T6 DSLR Camera

The Canon 1300D or Rebel T6 is an excellent camera for shooting both stills and movies and these are the best settings to shoot movies. In order to make any changes in the 1300D for video you need to be in the Video Mode. Turn the Dial Mode round to the very bottom option which…

The Canon 1300D or Rebel T6 is an excellent camera for shooting both stills and movies and these are the best settings to shoot movies. In order to make any changes in the 1300D for video you need to be in the Video Mode. Turn the Dial Mode round to the very bottom option which shows a video camera, and you will hear that the mirror inside the camera pop up. That enables you to see through the viewing screen at the back which is the only way you can shoot video on this camera. It also gives you access to the menu tabs which are dedicated to video and the first thing that you really need to do here is choose your video system. This was developed when TV systems were very different and if you wanted to show your videos on a TV screen you had to align what was shot on the camera to the TVs that you are going to be showing the video on. There are two systems, one is PAL and the other is NTSC. NTSC tends to be the system which is operated in the United States and PAL tend to be the system which is operated in Europe and other parts of the world. There's not an awful amount of difference. However it does change the way that the camera operates very slightly. So when you start to look at the frame rates you will see that under NTSC you get a frame rate option of 60 frames per second or 30 frames per second. When you're in PAL you get the option of 50 frames a second and 25 frames per second. They're the real differences that you will notice. Most people these days do not shoot on DSLR in order to show their videos on televisions. They tend to use it for social media or showing on a laptop. In which case it does not really make any difference. But in order to change that you need to go into the menus and you go to Tab 2 and down at the bottom you have the option to change Video System.

The second thing you need to think about is file size and frame rate. These things are quite important because they will decide the quality of the videos that you shoot. This camera is pretty good – it'll shoot 1080p which is full HD and it will also shoot 720p which is standard HD – both of which are perfectly acceptable for social media platforms. In order to make those changes we go again into Video Tab 2 and find Movie Recording Size. If we press on that option then we get four choices. Depending on whether you've chosen NTSC or PAL, you maximum rates will be either 60fps or 50fps.

The third thing you need to think about when shooting movies with this camera is exposure. When you're shooting stills with the Canon 1300D you have lots of choices. They're all on the Mode Dial and they go from entirely manual to semi-automatic and then to entirely automatic options In most of these Modes the camera is trying to get the best exposure for the stills that you're shooting within the given parameters that you have presented to it. With movies it's different. You have two options – you can either shoot Automatic or you can shoot Manual. With Automatic in the movie setting the camera will try to get the best possible exposure for you and in many cases it works very well, so I would suggest that at least at least you shoot in Automatic just to get a feel for how the camera works and you do not have to worry then about the exposure because the camera will do the best it can for you. However, if you want to go into Manual there are different ways of changing the various parameters for Manual that are different to the way that you would do that for stills. In the Menu, Movie Exposure is in Video Tab 1 and you get the two options, Auto or Manual. If you choose to go into Manual then you have much more control over the settings that you can have. You will see that you have options for setting the Shutter Speed for setting the Aperture and for setting the ISO. For the Shutter Speed, rotate Main Dial. By depressing the AV button here and rotating that Main Dial you can change the Aperture. The ISO is changed by pressing the flash button and rotating the Main Dial.

The fourth thing you need to think about is sound. The Canon 1300D does not have an external microphone socket. It just has an internal microphone, so sound can be a bit limited with this camera. But if you go into Menus and on Shooting Tab 2, the second one down is Sound Recording and you can set that to one of three options. You can have either Auto, Manual or Disabled. I would argue against disabling it entirely because sometimes it's useful to have sound, even if you do not intend to use it in the final cut. Auto is not bad but it will try to pick up as much sound as possible and you may not want that – you may not want the ambient sound. Manual is not too bad provided you're probably close to the source of sound. There is a decibel bar going across the bottom and, as with most cameras, the objective is to try to peak on about 12. In terms of its recording in itself it's actually pretty good, so I would not be adverse to using the internal microphone, you just have to be a little bit careful.

The next couple of options that we are going to look at are in Video Tab 3 and it may seem that they're less important than other options, but they do affect the way that your video looks and so they're worth checking out. If we go to Video Tab 3 then at the bottom is the Picture Style option. These are the same options that you get with stills and you can choose to have Vivid or Sepia or many other options and some of them are set so that they bring out the best qualities for portrait and landscape. With video it promises to be better to try and shoot video as flat as possible and so the best option to start with is neutral and so you should always set that to neutral for video until you make the decision that you want to change the Picture Style and shoot something differently. The one just above that in Video Tab 3 is Custom White Balance. It's very important for shooting videos because if you start moving around and shooting things in different light then the one stable element – the one constant – will be the white balance.
